October 14, World Standards Day
Today, we celebrate something that often works quietly behind the scenes, yet powers everything from international trade to digital transformation and impacts the normal persons life on a daily basis: standards.
At Protag, standards are at the very core of what we do.
Why Standards Matter
Standards make the world interoperable. They ensure that when two systems, companies, or countries exchange data, they speak the same language.
From the plug that fits into your wall socket to the format of a barcode that tracks a product across continents — standards turn complexity into cooperation.
In today’s rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, especially under the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), standards are becoming even more critical. The upcoming Digital Product Passports (DPPs) rely on common data models, global identifiers, and standardized reporting formats, so that sustainability information can flow seamlessly across industries and borders.
How Protag Builds on Standards
At Protag, we believe compliance shouldn’t create barriers, it should create connectivity.
That’s why our entire platform is built on internationally recognized standards:
Data models for product identification, traceability, and interoperability.
API - first architecture that aligns with ISO and W3C principles for open data exchange.
Blockchain - backed immutability ensuring that standardized data stays authentic and tamper-proof.
AI-assisted automation to map complex, unstructured data into standardized DPP schemas effortlessly.
By working with, not against, existing standards, Protag turns the complexity of compliance into clarity, efficiency, and trust.
Standards: The Foundation for Digital Product Passports
The success of the EU’s DPP framework depends on a shared understanding of product data. Standards make this possible by defining how materials, components, certifications, and environmental attributes are recorded and communicated.
Without shared standards, each manufacturer, supplier, or certifier would speak a different “data dialect” — making transparency and circularity impossible.
Parts og Protag’s mission is to bridge that gap by making standards usable, practical, and value-creating for businesses.
Our Role: Turning Standards into Action
We’re not just following standards — we’re shaping how they’re implemented across industries.
Partnering with standardization bodies, certification firms, and ERP/PIM providers to ensure seamless data alignment.
Helping manufacturers in Europe, Asia, and the US structure their data according to ESPR and Standard guidelines.
Building a compliance-first ecosystem where standardized data flows automatically from supplier to certifier to regulator.
In short: we’re turning regulation into real interoperability and efficiency.
Looking Ahead
World Standards Day reminds us that progress happens when we agree on how to move forward together.
As new sustainability and transparency requirements emerge, one thing is certain: standardization will define the winners.
At Protag, we’re proud to build on this foundation — connecting compliance, cost efficiency, and sustainability through the power of shared standards.
Here’s to a more transparent, connected, and circular future.
Happy World Standards Day from all of us at Protag!
